Welcome to Wetherby Town Council

HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

10th June 1921 to 9th April 2021

It is with great sadness that Wetherby Town Council has received the news of the death of His Royal Highness, Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh.

The Town Council and the Mayor of Wetherby offer their condolences to the Queen and the whole Royal Family and join with them in mourning his loss.

His passing will be keenly felt across the town and especially by those in the Armed Forces and other uniformed organisations, together with the many young people who have completed their Duke of Edinburgh awards and others who shared his varied interests such as conservation, industry and science.

The Mayor of Wetherby, Councillor Neil O’Byrne, will lay a floral tribute in the Garden of Rest at 9am on Saturday 10th April 2021 and is also expected to lead the town in two minutes of silence on the day of the funeral.

Members of the public are also invited to lay their floral tributes on the grassed areas of the Garden of Rest, North Street. As flowers will be composted after the funeral please ensure that all materials are biodegradable and any plastic wrapping is removed.

The Mayor will be using the online Condolence Book expected to be operated at royal.uk to express Wetherby Town Council’s sympathy. In the first instance members of the public are also encouraged to use this facility.

Welcome to the charming historic town of Wetherby, on the banks of the River Wharfe and centred in the
Yorkshire triangle of Leeds, York and Harrogate.

Whether you’re a resident, visitor, business or shopper we hope you’ll find the information you need about Wetherby on this site.
