> Council Responsibilities
Wetherby Town Council represents the area encompassed by the town. Neighbouring villages have their own parish councils. Major services are provided by Leeds City Council.
The Town Council is consulted on many issues affecting the town including roads and planning applications. The Town Council provides several areas of recreational land and play areas in Wetherby. The main sites are at Scaur Bank, Sandringham Road, Mason Field, off Quarry Hill Lane and at Nidd Approach. The Town Council also operates the cemetery on Hallfield Lane.
The Town Council is also the Trustee of Wetherby Town Hall, a registered charity. The Town Hall is located in the Market Place and dates back to 1845. It houses the Town Council office and has rooms hired out for a variety of charity events, community use and craft and antique fairs.
The Town Council also operates an open market around the Town Hall every Thursday and a Farmer's Market on the second Sunday of every month. Both markets are run under licence from Leeds City Council.
